this newly opened hotel in mexico is a surrealist dream
designed by mexcian architect javier senosiain, known for his organic, fantastical creations, el nido de quetzalcóatl is a complex of ten apartments that take a serpentine shape. its unusual structure and and tonal, tiled exterior takes inspiration from nature, with the intention of blending into its surrounds. senosiain was inspired by the natural shape of a cave mouth, which he found to carry an animal-like appearance.
listed on airbnb, the apartment available for guests includes three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, and a dining room. the interior of the apartment is minimal but comfortable, with natural oak furniture and huge rounded windows for natural light that serve as a portal into the magic outside. indeed, look closely and you’ll notice that there are almost no hard edges in the apartment - walls curve at pleasing angles, every table is round, even the shower features a wavy glass screen.

the hotel is about so much more than just the buildings, and guests have a tour of the park grounds included in their stay. set in a wooded ecosystem of oak trees, canyons, and native wildlife, is an opportunity to reconnect with nature. aside the obvious construction of the apartment, the rest of the grounds have been left untouched and in their natural state, staying true to the ethos of organic architecture. under the expert guidance of patricia, an associate of senosiain who also lives in the complex, the tour is a mammoth four hour journey through magical gardens, greenhouses, a grass covered ampitheatre, and various serpentine structures covered in intricate mosaic.
