location

Ancient rock art, natural cathedrals, and sky-scraper tall waterfalls – Australia’s Top End is one of the most striking and remote regions in the world. There’s something truly humbling about experiencing first-hand one of the world’s oldest living cultures – a must for all Australians in our opinion. Over the course of four adventure-packed days, we’ll be exploring Kakadu and Litchfield National Park and everything they have to offer. Learn about ancient rock art under the expert auspices of a local guide, trek through rugged landscapes, and marvel at lush rainforests brimming with wildlife. Every day of this Aussie Odyssey will have you catching your breath in complete awe – trust us when we say that you won’t come home the same person.

We’ll be staying at a lodge in Kakadu National Park, the perfect base for exploring the phenomenal natural surrounds. The campgrounds have permanent tents, outfitted with beds and linen, alongside shared amenities. This communal style accommodation is designed to build a sense of comradery and help you forge lifelong friendships with fellow travelers.

How do I get there?

Our Top End adventure starts and ends in Darwin, so you’ll need to organize your own flights. Qantas has daily flights to Darwin from Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, and Cairns. We’ll pick you up from Darwin and take a scenic three-hour drive to Kakadu National Park.

What is the style of the trip?

The trip marries an outback adventure with a rich cultural experience. With intense hikes, and campground accommodation, this trip is designed to get you out of your comfort zone, so don’t expect anything too glamourous – roughing it a little is part of the experience! The trip hinges on community and helping your fellow travelers, so you’ll be expected to assist with cleaning up after meals, collecting firewood, and sweeping out your tent.

What is the bathroom situation?

There are hot showers and toilets at every campsite. These are shared facilities.

What should I bring?

Bring everything you’ll need for a four-day adventure in Australia’s Top End. We’ll be doing lots of walking, sometimes in more difficult conditions, so appropriate hiking gear is a must. You’ll need a hat, water bottle, sunscreen, swimmers, insect repellant, and walking shoes or boots. Light, breathable clothing is recommended for daytime trekking. It can still get a little chilly at night, so bring some warmer layers too. Sleeping bags are available for hire, however, bringing your own is recommended if you have one.

We’ll be seeing some of the most incredible sites, all of which you’ll want to capture, so bring a camera if you have one.

What do the days look like?

There are inspiring early starts followed frequently by activity and walks. You’ll need a good level of fitness. Around lunch, at the hottest part of the day, we tend to drive-in air-conditioned comfort to our next stunning location. We’ll all be getting to know one another and telling great stories, but if you’d rather nap or listen to music, this is your chance!

How will we support local communities?

A portion of profits will support First Nations children charity Children's Ground. Read more about their work and how we support them on our journal.
